So
you want to join our reenacting unit? Here are some things to keep in mind:
Collecting
Your Gear.Fallschirmjäger is perhaps one of the
most rewarding of all WWII impressions, but don't buy anything until you
join up and talk to the unit commanders! There's a lot of sub-standard items
floating around out there, and we don't want you to waste money or time
on them.
An Active Interest
In Fallschirmjäger History. We shoot blanks at tacticals,
but we also represent the German paras at public displays, so it helps to
have a working knowledge of their history. Be prepared to buy a few books
to help you along with this (if you already don't have them).
Decent Physical
Shape. We not only run about with our gear at tactical events, it's
good to look the part. You don't have to be a super athelete, but we simply
can't have exceptionally large individuals in our ranks, sorry.
Event Travel.
Typically, the events we participate in are within a few hours drive, but
some are a bit further away... obviously we try to carpool. In these times
of high gasoline prices, you almost have to! Good events that we try to make
a maximum effort for are usually once a month or two. We also occasionally
make an effort for long-distance events where we fly to, but these are usually
only once a year at best and are by no means mandatory.
