Fallschirmjäger-Lehrkompanie

Why Are We Doing This?

Our FJR6 unit hosts a very special event each year specifically for Fallschirmjäger reenactors called the "FJ-Lehrkompanie Weekend", which is held at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA in conjunction with their “Warbirds Over the Beach” WW2 Airshow each May. It's really an 'event within an event' that typically draws 50+ of the best FJ reenactors from across the country. Because of the outstanding working relationship we’ve developed with the Military Aviation Museum, they give us exclusive use of their original Luftwaffe Hangar (aka “Cottbus Hangar”), taken from it’s former location in Cottbus, Germany, near Berlin), and VIP-level access to their Ju-52 transport plane. If you are a serious Fallschirmjäger reenactor, then THIS is THE event you’ll want to attend each year!

Our 2016 event/scenario theme is der 9. September 1943, where Fallschirmjäger jumped on Monte Rotondo to capture the Italian General Staff immediately following Italy's capitulation. The idea was to “cut the head off of the beast” and buy the Germans some time in order to better plan their defense against the allied armies working their way up the boot of Italy in order to attack Germany.

Thursday, 19 May 2016 - Participants need to travel and arrive on site Thursday afternoon (19 May). If you’re traveling by automobile along the Interstate 64 East corridor (From Richmond/Williamsburg), do yourself a favor, and try to be on the Norfolk-side of the Hampton Tunnel BEFORE 15:30, or you’ll be stuck in traffic. If that’s the case, you’re better off exiting I-64, find a place to eat dinner, and simply wait until 18:00 before continuing on to the event site. For those attendees on site by 17:00, we normally go to eat Dinner as a group at Pungo Pizza (3.5miles down the street from the museum); their weblink with street address is here: http://www.pungopizza.com/ordereze/Directions.aspx

Friday, 20 May 2016 – This is our “immersion training day”, definitely the best part of the weekend. We condense the wartime 6 week airborne course down to one day (minus the parachute jump). You’ll learn and properly execute the “Vorwärts/Ruckwärts Roll”, the famous diving aircraft exit, harness suspension training, German parachute packing procedures, and German aircraft boarding and exiting procedures… all as-instructed by the wartime Fallschirmjäger!

Saturday, 21 May 2016 – Static display of FJ uniforms & equipment used during the Monte Rotondo combat jump inside the Luftwaffe Hangar. (Participants are expected to study up on the history of this battle so as to be prepared to discuss it with public visitors).

Sunday, 22 May 2016 – Continuation of Fallschirmjäger static display inside the Luftwaffe Hangar. FJR6 unit members are expected to stay as late as possible on Sunday afternoon to cover-down on the public display for other FJ participants traveling out of state.

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT RANK: This event has a purposely limited rank structure; unless you have been pre-designated by the event staff to be a squad leader or assistant squad leader, please respect this structure by showing up with rank on your uniform below Oberjäger. This does not apply to Saturday night's "Hangar Dance" hosted by the museum.

Komm mit, und zage nicht, komm mit!
